This film is about 28 min long with high quality settings, so please keep patience while loading and please take a few minutes to rate it and give your valuable feedback to improve my work quality. (usually it takes 30-60 min depending on internet speed.)
So I have finished Ganga Talao documentary film at last. It was really nice experience working with DSLR camera but also needed lot more attention during shooting compare to working with mini DV or DV camera and even I was using Nikon D5000 which has very basic feature for shooting and also quality is not so good at all.
I have done this documentary in two part. First I had finished most of the shooting for around 70% of length and then had to wait for the main festival called Shivaratri. That was really great time while shooting with huge crowd when no space for a single step.
Film has done with very limited people and I would really like to say thanks to David Humphreys and Hanshini. Script, Direction, Shooting, Narration and Editing done by me and I have also done music of the Shivratri. I really thankful to David Humphreys as he helped me to correct and edit the script. Also very much thankful to Hanshini as she helped me lot during entire film making process. She coordinated me and without her help it would be hard to finished this film.
I admit and know few things which I could improved.
- Camera shake in few shots
- Voice over in last part of the film
Camera shake: That was knowing issue as I didn’t have much budget to get hight quality rig equipments form DSLR
Voice over at last part of the film: This problem I could ignore if I would get more time. This problem happened because of my paining throat.
I know these excuses can be never considered in professional work and that’s why I will try to re record last voice over part when I will get bit time. Unfortunately I cannot re-shoot jerky shot again but that also will try to fix it by stabilizing the footage.

Glad to hear Docextreme1 you like this film. Yes I did all things in this film myself with help of my friend and I really appreciate her help.
Hi there,
Om Namah Shivaye!!
I am a Hindu Mauritian actually living in Brussels. I am fascinated by your recording and this short film is very valuable to me as I am missing my country and all the festivities celebrated there. Thanks for letting people around the world know about this very holy lake and place.
Also heard that there was “miraculous” lighting on the Maurisheshwarnath Shivling during inauguration!!
May God Bless you and your family
Om Namah Shivay!
I really glad to hear from you and can understand your feeling toward motherland as I belong to India and missing India and Indian festivals celebration. But lucky to be in Mauritius as never felt so big difference than India.
Thanks a lot for your blesses.
Superb shooting… I am also using DSLR Nikon D5000 and I believe that its really hard to get shot what you got.. Its definitely required so much effort and sound knowledge with lots of dedication and patience. Music is fantastic and all sequences gives nice film-look feeling no doubt. I don’t know about other viewer but I like voice over too for entire film, only few errors with accent and last part (Shivratri) I would say it required more punch or high pitch as per the scene and conclusion part as well.
If I have to give points out of 10, I would give at least 7.5 points. All in one what you have used… the camera, less resources, low budget, less people… I appreciate and congratulate for your great job with nice direction..
Looking for more films..
Hi admin first of all i m sorry to visit this thread so late was busy.
it was good attempt .as it was your first experience it was way good . as all of them said abt voices and distortion in between i dont want to repeat it again.ope u will clear it when u get the time and wat find interesting was the pixellation techinque was very good.sound impact worked very well in the end.and indian feel was surely theire.
hope to see somethig better next time.i must say the video clarity was very good.
ALL the best.
Regards
Paras Gada
I would give 3.5/5 for the documentary.
I am not commenting about the subject as it is sensitive and relative to the viewer. These points are only about the technical side.
pros:
1: Excellent videography for the medium line camera used.
2: Decent and flawless transitions and effects.
3: Very good voice. With a deep tone.
4:Colour and tone used in video.
cons:
1:The first and most important factor that literally spoiled the video is the narration.
The initial hurry was kind of gritty. Keeping in mind that you have a good deep voice, your accent and pronunciation spoiled it effect. Many words are pronounced wrong like sacred (it should be pronounced say-kred , environment, sea level, island(should be pronounced eye-land, s is silent), ganges(it should either be ganga or ghan-jes).You should train pronouncing words in correct way before final recording.
2:The script – lots of grammatical errors and usage flaws. You should find an excellent script writer who is poetic in English.
Though it is a visually pleasing video , the cons above seriously injures the feel.
@geoDESIC,
I really got great feedback from you and admit all what you said. I agree about all my pronunciation and accents, not so good. Even I am not so good in English as any English native people. However I am just wondering that this script has edited by one Canadian native and still there is some grammatical mistakes left!! I believe what you said but I would be really appreciate if you put some your valuable effort to point where I have done all grammatical mistakes..
I totally agree regarding wrong words.. I did many mistakes in voice over recording as this was my first project so learn lot and did many mistakes but I’ll try to correct it next time.. and if possible I will re record voice over again and make next version video.
Thanks a lot for your valuable comment and pls reply with my grammatical mistake if you get some time.
Born in Canada does not mean he should be good in English. Many Indians write and talk much better English.
“Ganga Talao – The most holy place in Mauritius”
Such usages are does not have a poetic and spiritual feel you intend to bring about.
If it was like “Ganga Talao – A lake high in the mountains , home to a sacred Hindu temple ….”
It would be much better!
Yes that’s true what you said. And I keep in mind to use some poetic words in future. Its really great help I got from you and all other commentators. Thanks a lot and keep visiting my site and put your feedback its really valuable to me.
Great thininkg! That really breaks the mold!
Good footage. video shooting is good and music embedding is excellent . Pronunciation is quite a problem. . words like island is pronounced as is- land, the audio takes a sudden shift in the beginning that could have been avoided. the chantings were superb it gave a holistic effect to the whole footage. if speaking about video, despite of low quality it came out good. try not to show scenes over and over again it gives viewers a pause to think that they have seen it somewhere. ideology is no matter how low cost or how low quality a footage is the viewer seeks content , that could be scenes and perfectly narrated mythology.
i can share a technique if u want. . any point if u are introducing historical things which could lag the content which is necessary for the admin to show but not necessary for the viewer to listen. at certain point add more detailing to the pictures or add more stuff to the footage so that viewer struck to the screen!
well i can say this as a part of viewer hope u got what i try to say.
your effort has bloomed out well.dedication is clearly seen.
Hope to see more from you.
wishing success through out.
Jinny,
Thanks to watch the film and aware me with some mistakes. Its really great feedback which will improve my work quality.
Yes I had used few repeated footage because some less footage was available or can say couldn’t shot all required footage. In fact your point is true and admit that too. I also admit with my pronunciation that is not so perfect and that’s why taken more time in recording. However still many mistakes remain in voice over.
I would be happy to know some technique from you to improve my quality or work. This is my very first independent film ever done. So surely I need some feedback and help to improve the quality. So please feel free to share you technique and feedback with me.
Really great thanks for your feedback and admit all what you said.
its a good documentary. But at times i felt it was stretched a bit. May be because i know about the Hindu myth or may be its something that is not new for me.
But the visuals are rich and provide a soothing effect on the eyes when i see the documentary. the music in the ending sequences along with the credits is magnificent. But the voice over is very plain on the foreground. it doesn’t have the same pace as the music. the music seems to lift the spirit after a long and dull explanation of the history and myth of worshiping lord Krishna and Vishnu and Shiva.
the voice is good. its low pitched and it adds to the initial drama. but otherwise in the long run, its not very effective. somewhere, the pronunciation is offbeat concerning some important words like ‘sacred’ and ‘Ganges’. there are not too many highs and lows. it seems to stress too much rather than saying casually.
the mixing of the shots have been awesome. particularly the ones of the Himalayas and the Ganges. it mixes up well with the quality of the documentary footage.it looks part of the original footage.
So the overall package of the videos look amazing and it provides a good inspiration to watch it and share it. Its an effort which surely has came out good. All the best for the future endeavours.
Dear Jollygoodfellow,
First would say thank to watch this film. I really appreciate your feedback and admin few things as well. I also need to clarify few things as per your comments.
As this film is based on Hindu mythology and even with low budget there was some limitation and requirements to make this film. Anything what we know better than will make us feel bit non interested or less interested and as you said you know the Hindu mythology so this could be the cause you felt bit stretchy.
This is a documentary film and should have some time so viewer can understand whats going on. What you are talking is good and perfect for live action drama film. So I would suggest you to watch this film as you don’t know Hindu mythology and watching a documentary not live action drama film.
As I have already mentioned in my post only few people worked on this film and this film is done in low budget so I couldn’t hire professional voice over artist. In fact I admit and myself feel the last part voice over is not so effective compare to part from start to middle. Also if you think a while what camera I have used than you will also admit the quality of film is way way better.
Means if you would consider all this points.
1. This is a documentary not live action drama film
2. Too low budget
3. Lower quality camera Nikon D5000
4. You are familiar with Hindu mythology
Above points are very much important to make any film. So hope you would understand. Here I admit voice over issue and will correct when will get time.
I am looking forward for more feedback.
Wow this is really fantastic film. How could you get this film look with dslr nikon d5000. Its really looking great only few camera shake problem. Nice voice over and music too. I am just impressed with this film. Looking for more film from you. I will definitely share this film.
Gud Luk..
artist.life thanks for your feedback. I really enjoined and learn lot during this film making. I was lucky in some case where I got rare footage and would thankful to god for that.
I may will correct couple of mistake but when will get free time. Please give your valuable feedback that will help me to make myself perfect in future.
